Josh Hawkins
Artistic Director / Choreographer
Josh Hawkins is a director, choreographer and dancer based in Manchester. After founding Hawk Dance Theatre in 2015, Josh has produced and created his own projects, receiving several funding awards from Arts Council England, as well as other reputable commissions.
Josh has produced works for various platforms (stage, screen and festivals) which have been showcased throughout the UK. Excited about collaboration, Josh's interests lie in creating dynamic movement work, connecting multiple art forms and reaching diverse audiences.
As well as his work with HAWK, Josh is currently working in Wigan as Artistic Director of WN Dance Company; an exciting new concept bringing together talented young people and professional performers to create and perform new dance works made in and for the Wigan Borough. With the aim of making progression routes and professional careers in dance more accessible for young people in Wigan.
Josh works independently as a photographer and videographer within the arts industry. Josh has worked for leading artists and organisations, such as; Dance4, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Yorkshire Dance, Gary Clarke Company and Joss Arnott Dance to create a range of promotional materials.
Josh has experience of collaborating with a number of artists, art forms and mentors and has had the opportunity to work with established UK choreographers Gary Clarke & Luca Silvestrini, as his choreographic mentors.
Josh is an experienced facilitator and delivers workshops extensively. Josh has guest delivered at a range of arts organisations and for a range of companies, including: The Lowry, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Dance4 CAT, DanceXchange, Ludus Dance and Brewery Arts.
Josh graduated from Northern School of Contemporary Dance with a first class honours degree in 2013. He spent 2013-14 working with Verve (postgraduate performance company). During this time, he worked with established national UK choreographers; Lea Anderson, Ben Duke and GoddardNixon. Josh went on to tour Scotland with choreographer Thomas Small in a range of his works.
